November 23, 2007, Newsletter Issue #107: Book Spine Width

Tip of the Week

Don't be spineless! The spine width is an important part of your book cover design. There's a simple formula which determines that book spine width:Paperback: The number of pages in your book divided by your text paper's PPI (Pages Per Inch)Hard cover: Add the thickness of the boards Where do you get the PPI? It depends on what kind of paper you're using and it usually appears on the printer's estimate or quote (if for some reason it doesn't appear there, ask the printer for it).
